Textile Artwork
Artist Statement:
I create art quilts that incorporate hand-dyed and painted fabric and custom printed fabrics. This allows me to construct specific arrays of color and iconography. Distinct geometric shapes appear in my improvisational piecing and planned piecing. The works tell a story via sequences of vignettes of selected icons and textural quilting.
My work focuses on the conflicts that society can engender in the individual and the restorative aspect of nature. In particular, the conflict in seeing the world through the lens of mathematics combined with the chaos of today’s society. I frequently use nature to restore my sense of center and mediate the response to stress. My work contains hand dyed fabrics and organic quilted textures. The goal of the work is to express very intentional thought processes in a visual manner.
I turn these concepts into tactile works of art using fiber and textiles through meditative practice and exploration.
